TikTok has warned it will go dark in the US on Sunday unless President Joe Biden’s administration provides assurances that companies like Apple and Google won’t face enforcement actions when the ban takes effect.

This comes after the US Supreme Court upheld a law banning TikTok in the US on national security grounds, unless its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, sells it.

The court’s decision has put TikTok’s fate in the hands of incoming President Donald Trump, who has vowed to rescue the app.

Trump has stated that his decision on TikTok will be made soon, but he needs time to review the situation.

TikTok CEO Shou Chew has expressed gratitude to President Trump for his commitment to finding a solution that keeps TikTok available in the US.

Chew emphasized that the company will continue fighting to protect the constitutional right of free speech for its 170 million American users.

The ban, set to take effect on Sunday, prohibits app stores from offering TikTok and internet hosting services from hosting the app.

While existing users may still access TikTok, new users won’t be able to download it, and updates won’t be available, eventually rendering the app unusable.
