Just eight days after receiving a gubernatorial pardon, Sunday Omisakin, a former inmate, has found himself back behind bars.

Omisakin, who was among those pardoned by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on December 26, 2024, was remanded in the Ilesa Correctional Facility on January 3, 2025, for alleged burglary and theft.

Omisakin’s pardon was part of the governor’s prerogative of mercy extended to selected inmates for minor offences. However, police reports revealed that the ex-convict allegedly broke into a residence in Osogbo and stole a plasma television valued at N600,000.

The suspect, who was number eight on the pardon list, reportedly committed the act less than two weeks after his release. The burglary case has left many residents questioning the effectiveness of such clemency in rehabilitating offenders.

The court ordered Omisakin’s remand after a preliminary hearing, with the judge adjourning the case for further proceedings. Authorities have urged the public to allow due process while investigations continue.
