Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has made a shocking revelation that President Bola Tinubu’s government is paying opposition leaders N50 million each to undermine Nigeria’s democratic process.
Atiku disclosed this information at a national conference on strengthening democracy in Abuja, where he cautioned that Nigeria’s democracy is at risk of collapse if urgent action isn’t taken.
Atiku claimed that he met with opposition party leaders who told him that the government gives them N50 million each.
He questioned the integrity of some opposition leaders, asking if they truly want to fight for democracy.
Atiku also criticized the current National Assembly, calling it a “rubber stamp” for the government, and expressed doubts about the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral umpire.
Atiku cited Turkey’s electoral body as a benchmark of integrity, where they refused to declare a president-elect who fell short of the required vote threshold.
He called for opposition parties to unite, reflecting on his own decades-long struggle for democracy, including personal sacrifices such as an attempt on his life, seizure of his businesses, and exile.
Atiku emphasized that if opposition parties don’t unite and take action, Nigeria’s democracy may collapse.
