The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reported on Thursday that its tower, T195, along the Ugwuaji – Makurdi 330 Kilo Volt transmission line was targeted by vandals on Saturday.
The incident occurred at Watuolo village, Utonkon in Ado Local Government Area of Benue State, according to TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, speaking in Abuja.
Mbah praised the local community for their quick response, stating that around 3 am, community members observed suspicious activities near the tower. Thanks to their alertness, one of the suspected vandals was apprehended while others managed to escape. The captured suspect was then handed over to the police.
“TCN commends the people of Watuolo village for their swift action and vigilance,” Mbah said. She further urged other communities hosting critical infrastructure to follow this example and take responsibility for safeguarding these facilities.
“As we continue to work with security operatives and host communities against vandalism, we appeal for more vigilance by residents in the communities, who we believe are very critical in this fight,” she added.
