The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has failed to produce any witnesses to defend its declaration of Senator Monday Okpebholo as the winner of the September 21st governorship election in Edo State, as the hearing resumed today, Thursday.

During the session in Abuja, INEC’s legal team announced that they would be closing their case due to their inability to present witnesses.

This came after the commission had only submitted three documents—originally provided by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)—as evidence.

The unexpected development has caused shock within the All Progressives Congress (APC) camp in Edo State, which had anticipated a strong defense of their victory.

Following a request from the respondents, the Tribunal has adjourned proceedings until Monday, February 10.
