The Benue State Police Command has revealed that the kidnapping of Emmanuel Yaji, a prominent community leader, was orchestrated by one of his own relatives.
Emmanuel Yaji, head of the Kunav United Development Association, was abducted from a relaxation centre in Tsar Mbaduku, Vandeikya Local Government Area on December 30, 2024.
According to Chief Superintendent of Police Catherine Anene, the police swiftly acted on the case, rescuing Yaji within 24 hours, killing one kidnapper, and arresting another.
Further investigation led to additional arrests, including that of Teryima Yaji, a relative of the victim.
“The Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Steve Yabanet, ordered a detailed investigation into the case, leading to the arrest of more gang members,” Anene stated. She revealed that Teryima Yaji confessed to being the mastermind behind the kidnapping, aiming to extort money from his family.
Additionally, Terna Sule, a native doctor, was apprehended for preparing the gang for the operation and guiding the attack.
“The suspects will be charged in court upon the completion of our investigation,” Anene confirmed, highlighting the ongoing efforts to ensure justice for this betrayal within the family circle.
