The suspended chairman of Oredo Local Government Area, Dr. Tom Obaseki, has threatened to charge Edo State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Lucky Eseigbe, with contempt of court.
The dispute, Truth Live News gathered, centers around the appointment of Dr. Igbinigie Osaheni as acting chairman of the council.
Obaseki’s counsel, Olayiwola Afolabi, issued a 24-hour ultimatum to Eseigbe to withdraw the appointment letter, citing a court injunction that recognizes Obaseki as the rightful chairman.
Afolabi described the commissioner’s action as “superfluous, insidious, and insulting to democratic tenets.”
Truth Live News recalls that the controversy began when Eseigbe appointed Osaheni as acting chairman, following the suspension of 18 local government chairmen and their deputies over alleged financial misappropriation and insubordination.
Obaseki’s camp, however m, argued that the appointment violates the court’s injunction and undermines the democratic process.
