Hon. Ogbeide Ifaluyi-Isibor, a former commissioner for digital economy and member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed satisfaction with the testimony given by a witness presented by Monday Okpebholo at the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
Speaking at the tribunal venue on Monday, Ifaluyi-Isibor commended the witness for his honesty, noting that he understood the consequences of lying under oath.
The witness had admitted that there was over-voting in his polling unit, aligning with PDP’s claims before the tribunal.
He also confirmed that despite the over-voting, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) did not cancel the results, which Ifaluyi-Isibor argued was a violation of the Electoral Act.
He said, “Let me state without equivocation and with every sense of fairness that I am very impressed with the witness presented by the second Respondent; Monday Okpebholo today at the Tribunal.
“He was very honest and understood the consequences of lying under Oath.
“He confirmed that there was over voting in his polling unit and that’s in sync with our prayers before the Tribunal. He also confirmed that even with the over voting, INEC refused to cancel the results which is against the Electoral Act.
“Having performed so well but to the disappointment of his counsel, they decided not to present any more witnesses and close their case.
“The counsel to the 3rd Respondent; APC will open their case on Wednesday and produce witnesses before the court.”
