The Executive Chairman of the Kano State Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Zaid Abubakar, said he has set his eyes on the revenue drive of N100 billion for the 2025 financial year.

He disclosed this at the Kano Internal Revenue Service (KIRS) Annual Performance Review 2024 and Strategic Planning for 2025.

Abubakar agreed that their own revenue target was slightly higher than the N75 billion handed over to them by the state government.

He however expressed strong believe that the State would in the coming years, increase the states annual revenue generation to N300 billion and above.

He hinged his optimism on the grounds that Kano is a center of commerce with five local and international markets as well as a leading agricultural hub in the country

The chairman of IRS also revealed that the state is set to review all the revenue generation laws adding that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has granted leave for the exercise to take place before the end of the first quarter of this year.

“We have to rewrite the laws because approval has been given by His Excellency Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf which we hope to do before the end of first quarter of this year,” Abubakar said.

He said reviewing the tax laws was necessary to enhance overall revenue generation in the state as the existing tax laws were obsolete and ineffective.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Revenue , Ibrahim Barde urged the service to address some of the challenges bedeviling revenue generation in the state.

He said the state government is considering the possibility of introducing Agricultural produce revenue.
