Varela expressed his excitement about potentially facing Messi at the FIFA Club World Cup later this year.
Speaking at Porto’s FIFA Club World Cup 2025 trophy tour, Varela emphasized that it would be an honor to play against his nation’s team captain.
“The truth is that Messi is the best player in the world,” Varela stated. “I hope he’s not too brilliant in that game.
We’ll try our best to ensure Porto wins that game and all our upcoming matches.”
Varela’s statement comes on the heels of Ronaldo’s declaration that he is the greatest and most complete footballer ever.
Ronaldo claimed that he has not seen any player better than him, including Messi, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time.
