UYO – Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, has declared that only two officials—the Commissioner for Information and the Chief Press Secretary—are authorized to issue press statements on behalf of the government.

Speaking at the Uyo Archdiocesan Headquarters of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Itiam Etoi, Uyo, on Sunday, Governor Eno emphasized the need for order and professionalism in government communications. He stated, “No government appointee is permitted to issue a press statement without clearance from the Office of the Secretary to the Government.” He further urged officials to uphold the state’s values of decorum and responsibility, ensuring that government communications remain coherent and well-coordinated.

The governor reaffirmed his commitment to good governance through the ARISE Agenda, stressing that his administration is focused on delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Akwa Ibom. “Let us allow the decency and decorum in this state to continue and grow. We are called to deliver on the promises of the ARISE Agenda,” he said. He also highlighted the importance of peace and unity, urging appointees to work harmoniously for the state’s development.

In a social media post, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ekerette Udoh, noted that Governor Eno’s directive was aimed at maintaining order and professionalism among government officials. The governor also advised his appointees to emulate Joseph’s exemplary leadership in Egypt, encouraging them to “imbibe a forgiving spirit and work towards the development of the state.”

Truth Live News gathered that ahead of the formation of the new Executive Council, the governor clarified that he is not building a “war cabinet” but rather a “delivery team to interpret the ARISE Agenda and further build bridges across the various fabrics of the state.”

Meanwhile, the Methodist Archbishop of Uyo, Most Rev. John Ene Koko-Bassey, delivered a sermon on “Forgiveness,” drawing from the biblical story of Joseph’s reconciliation with his brothers in Genesis 45:3-5. He emphasized that “unforgiveness is a tool of division and a hindrance to progress.” Governor Eno echoed this sentiment, calling on appointees to embrace reconciliation and unity in service to the state.
