The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on President Bola Tinubu and the leadership of the National Assembly to intervene in the ongoing dispute between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The student body warned that if left unresolved, the situation could escalate and lead to international embarrassment for the country.

NANS made the appeal in a statement released on Saturday by its National Vice President, Akinbodunse Sileola Felicia, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The altercation between Akpabio and Akpoti-Uduaghan began during a Senate plenary on Thursday over seating arrangements, after which Akpoti-Uduaghan accused the Senate President of sexually harassing her.

Although the claim has not been substantiated, NANS emphasized the importance of thoroughly investigating the matter to avoid further tension.

Akinbodunse called for peace, urging both Akpabio and Akpoti-Uduaghan to resolve their differences for the sake of the country.

She stressed that the National Assembly should set an example of integrity, particularly during a time when Nigeria is facing economic and financial challenges.

The NANS leader also pointed out that the National Assembly should not be distracted by such issues.

The NANS National Vice President concluded by stating that the student body will be closely monitoring the situation and warned, “We will not hesitate to march to the National Assembly if the face-off is not resolved.”
