Gospel singer Mercy Chinwo has filed a defamation lawsuit against social media influencer, Martins Otse, alias VeryDarkMan (VDM), for making false claims about her.

Recall that in February, VDM accused Chinwo of stealing money from her shows and failing to pay her former record label, which is owned by Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu.

He also alleged that the singer broke her contract with the label before leaving.

In the lawsuit filed on March 3, Chinwo’s lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, said that VDM’s statements were “false, malicious, and damaging” to her reputation.

Olajengbesi argued that VDM was not involved in the issue between Chinwo and EeZee Tee, yet he presented the situation in a way that hurts her image.

He added, “The claimant states that she has never had any relationship with the defendant, nor was he involved in any way with the issue between her and EeZee Tee.”

Olajengbesi also said that VDM made it seem like he was directly involved, but his comments were “false and harmful” to Chinwo’s public image.

Recall also that in January, Chinwo accused Onyedikachukwu, also known as EeZee Tee, of exploiting her, threatening her life, and spreading lies about the paternity of her child. This accusation is part of a larger ongoing dispute between them.

In a video posted on Instagram, Chinwo claimed that she had to move from Lagos to Port Harcourt for her safety after receiving threats. She did not mention his name but said, “He threatened my life, and I had to leave Lagos to seek safety.”
