C’River State Governor Nominates Four For Judicial Service Commission

CROSS RIVER, CALABAR – The Acting Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, Ph.D, has nominated four individuals for appointment to the State Judicial Service Commission.

The nominations have been submitted to the State House of Assembly for confirmation.

According to a press release signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Nsa Gill, the nominees are: Komomo Ntem Ikpi, Esq. Tasen Okune, Esq. Imaji Teresa Odey and Chief Asuquo Asuquo Asibong.

The appointments, which are for a tenure of five years, are in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

The release further explained that the Judicial Service Commission comprises both statutory and appointed members. Statutory members include the Chief Judge of the State, who serves as the Chairman, the Attorney General of the State, and the President of the Customary Court of Appeal.

Additionally, two members must be legal practitioners with a minimum of ten years of experience, while two others must be individuals of unquestionable integrity, regardless of their legal background.

Upon confirmation by the State House of Assembly, the nominees will assume their roles, completing the composition of the Commission.

The statement emphasized that the appointments will only take effect after the Assembly’s approval.
