A recent proposal by former US President Donald Trump’s administration suggests imposing travel restrictions on nearly half of Africa’s countries.

According to a document shared by The New York Times, 22 African countries are listed, with the majority falling under three categories: Red, Orange, and Yellow.

Red Category: Total Travel Ban

– Somalia

– Libya

– Sudan

These countries would face a complete travel ban under the proposed policy.

Orange Category: Sharply Restricted Visas

– Eritrea

– Sierra Leone

– South Sudan

Citizens of these countries would face significant restrictions on obtaining US visas.

Yellow Category: 60-Day Window to Address Concerns

– Angola

– Benin

– Burkina Faso

– Cameroon

– Cape Verde

– Chad

– Republic of Congo

– Democratic Republic of Congo

– Equatorial Guinea

– The Gambia

– Liberia

– Malawi

– Mali

– Mauritania

– São Tomé and Príncipe

– Zimbabwe

These countries would have 60 days to address US concerns before facing potential travel restrictions.

This proposal echoes Trump’s previous travel ban on seven majority-Muslim nations, which was upheld by the Supreme Court in 2018.
