The Imo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has debunked the rumour of organs harvest in the state.

Recall that there is viral video of a human rights activist in the state, Chinonso Uba, alias “Nonso Nkwa”, alleging organ harvesting in the state.

Briefing the media in his office, the State Commandant, Basil Igwebueze, said the alarm raised by the activist was false and a total misrepresentation of the actual incident that led to his claims.

The commandant said the command only received a distress call from one of its staff who claimed her 25 years daughter was raped after entering a one-chance bus.

“We only detained the suspect after he was later identified by the victim, but seeing his health conditions, we had to let him go since his offence is a bailable one, and we can’t continue to keep him in our facility,” Igwebueze said.

But he stressed that Uba, in a twist, had accused the suspect of organ harvesting in his social media video.

The mother of the victim, Mrs Ogeri Ude, has also denied the allegation of organ harvesting, saying her daughter never reported such to Uba.

“This is not what she told Uba. I’m surprised that he went and misrepresented the whole thing in his video; nobody harvested my daughter’s organ; she only complained of rape.”

Also, in a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, Cajetan Ahanonu, narrating the incident, he maintained that Uba’s claims were baseless and unfounded.

“On March 18, 2025, the command received a distress call from Ogeri Ude, a staff member, reporting the sighting of a suspect who allegedly raped her 25 years old daughter on March 05, 2025, at about 2230 hrs.

“Following standard protocols, operatives were immediately deployed, and the suspect, Stanley Ebo, was taken into custody after being identified by the victim.

“During the preliminary investigation, the suspect denied ever meeting the victim and committing rape. He claimed mistaken identity; the alleged offence is bailable under the law.

“The suspect began experiencing heart-related medical issues while in custody, stooling and vomiting blood at a point. Given the suspect’s serious health concerns and the lack of medical facilities within the command, the suspect’s family applied for bail so as to seek immediate medical attention for him.

“Bail was granted on humanitarian and health grounds. The Command prioritised the suspect’s well-being while maintaining the investigative process.

“The command categorically states that no organ harvesting occurred; neither was there any report from any quarters to that effect.

“The allegations by Chinonso Uba are completely unfounded and baseless. The source of these false claims remains unclear, as the complainant claimed complete ignorance of the allegations in the social media outburst against the Corps by Nonso Nkwa.

“The NSCDC Imo State Command remains committed to its mandate of protecting citizens and critical national assets, maintaining public safety, etc.

“We will continue to work collaboratively with sister security agencies and the general public and will not be deterred by attempts to undermine the Corps through the spreading of misinformation or any other means by some unscrupulous elements who do not have the interest, peace, growth, and development of the state and the nation at heart,” Ahanonu said.
