The Egba Muslim leader, Sheikh Iskil Awwal, explained that Eid el-Fitri is celebrated on Monday because Ramadan is supposed to last 30 days, not 29.

Sheikh Awwal stated that the dates may differ across various parts of the world, and the new moon was discovered the previous day, making Ramadan last 30 days.

He emphasized that both the Egba Muslim community and those who followed the Sultan’s and Saudi Arabia’s directives had adhered to their respective Islamic leaders and had not sinned against the religion.

Sheikh Awwal noted that the issue of the new month is something God has not allowed any man on earth to have absolute power over.

He stressed that whether one ended their fast on Sunday or Monday, they have both adhered to the guidance of their Islamic leaders, and God will accept their prayers as an act of ibadah.

Sheikh Awwal concluded that Muslims must adhere strictly to the teachings of their Islamic leaders, as they are knowledgeable in the religion.
