NIGERIA, ABUJA – The Federal Government has renewed its commitment to revitalizing Nigeria’s Cotton, Textile, and Garment (CTG) industry, describing it as a strategic sector with significant potential for job creation, industrial growth, and economic development.

Speaking on Tuesday at the CTG Stakeholder Engagement themed “Co-Creating Solutions to Grow Nigeria’s CTG Industry” in Abuja, the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Senator John Owan Enoh, described the event as a “pivotal moment” in efforts to reposition the sector.

“The CTG industry is not just a part of our heritage; it is a driver of inclusive economic growth,” Enoh said. “This forum was convened not merely to consult, but to genuinely listen, collaborate, and co-create.”

He emphasized that the Ministry is committed to establishing a strong policy and institutional framework tailored to current economic realities and future needs.

“We recognize that such efforts cannot, and must not, occur in isolation,” he added.

Enoh outlined two primary objectives for the engagement: to finalize the review of the national policy framework for the CTG sector, and to build consensus on an actionable roadmap for its long-term sustainability and competitiveness.

Industry stakeholders, policymakers, and development partners attended the forum, contributing ideas on how to unlock the sector’s potential.

According to Enoh, the input from those directly involved in the industry is crucial to shaping sustainable and impactful solutions.

“Together, let us seize this opportunity to chart a bold and transformative course for Nigeria’s CTG industry—one that delivers prosperity, drives industrialization, and reflects the ingenuity and resilience of our people,” the Minister urged.

The CTG sector, once a cornerstone of Nigeria’s manufacturing base, has struggled in recent decades due to policy inconsistencies, infrastructure challenges, and global competition.

The government hopes that renewed stakeholder engagement and policy alignment will reverse the decline and reposition the sector for growth.
