The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has firmly declared that the Hon. Tony Aziegbemi-led Caretaker Committee remains the only recognized leadership of the party in Edo State.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, recounted that the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), during its meeting held on February 6, 2025, constituted the Aziegbemi-led Caretaker Committee to oversee the party’s affairs in the state. The mandate, which is in accordance with the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017), is to run for an initial period of 90 days effective from February 6, 2025.
Ologunagba emphasized that any claims contrary to this arrangement should be disregarded, adding that the Caretaker Committee is fully empowered to act on behalf of the PDP in Edo State.
“Party members, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, the media, and the general public should therefore disregard any contrary claim on the leadership of the Edo State Chapter of the PDP,” Ologunagba stated.
This clarification comes amid speculations and conflicting reports about the party’s leadership structure in Edo State, especially in the buildup to the crucial governorship election later this year.
The PDP leadership urged all stakeholders to rally behind the Caretaker Committee for a united and formidable front in the state.
