The Presidential flagbearer of the People’s Democratic Party PDP, Chief Atiku Abubakar has said that Peter Obi’s exit from the PDP to Labour Party has no effect on his chances of winning the presidential elections, though he (Obi) is from the South-East and the zone has been high stake holders in the party’s political victories over the years.

Atiku said this in an interview by Arise News TV crew in their breakfast show, the Morning Show, on Friday which was monitored by Truthlive.net.

According to Atiku, the agitation from the South East to produce a president or vice president in the country is understandable since there has never been one since the emergence of independence, however, in politics, you don’t get power through cohesion, force, but through negotiation.

He noted that Peter Obi being from South East and a presidential candidate, will have no relevant effect on the success and prospect of PDP in that zone, during the presidential election.

“I really don’t expect the Labour Party to take as much votes from the PDP as people are suggesting.

“We have seen it in the last election in Osun state, what is the performance of the Labour Party?

“This is a party that doesn’t have a governor, doesn’t have members of the national assembly, state assembly members.

“The politics in this country depends on the structures you have at these various levels.”

Atiku further stated he misses Peter Obi and remembers when he was his running mate but Obi’s chance of becoming president is only on social media because “after all they were saying through the social media, they have more than 1 million votes in Osun state but how many could stand out?”

When asked if he will become a president from Dubai, due to his incessant visits there, Atiku responded that his visits are only amplified by social media because the longest he has stayed in Dubai was during the Covid-19 era when he took the opportunity to do his masters over there. He noted that the agitations over his Dubai visits are quite irrelevant to his chances of becoming president of Nigeria.
