National Population Commission (NPC) says that it has completed the conduct of its trial census in the nine selected Local Government Areas of Niger State on a successful note.
This much was revealed by Mohammed Dattijo Usman, Honourable Federal Commissioner representing Niger State in the NPC while talking to some media men including a Truthlive.net correspondent.
Usman said the conduct of the trial census in these Local Government Areas has been smooth and hitch-free.
The Local Government Areas where trial census took place included Edati, Katcha, Mokwa, Bosso, Gurara, Tafa, Agwara, Borgu and Wushishi.
Earlier during a media briefing, Nasir Isa Kwarra, Chairman of NPC, had described trial census as the “census dress rehearsal”, which is one of the pre-census activities to evaluate all aspects of the census operation before the main census on a limited scale.
Kwarra had said, “It is a process in which all census operations are tested in a detailed and comprehensive manner to assess the level of preparedness of the Commission to conduct the 2023 Population and Housing Census.”
Other objectives, he said, include to,”Determine the correlation between EAD estimated population and the pre-test enumerated population; determine the requisite educational qualification for the 2023 census’ enumerators; determine the appropriateness of the estimated workload on the enumerators and determine the necessary logistics support that might be required from the States and Local Government Areas.”
The Federal Commissioner however, underscored the need for the Commission to embark on massive publicity geared towards sensitising and creating awareness about the forthcoming Population and Housing Census slated for 2023.
