Nation’s Journalist Alleges Threat to Life Over Article Titled ‘Obituary’ Criticizing Obi

The chairman, Nation Newspaper Editorial Board, Sam Omatseye has cried out over alleged threat to his life by the supporters of Labour Party’s presidential aspirant, Peter Obi over his publications about the him titled, ‘Obituary’.

Omatseye who raised the alarm in a tweet via his verified Twitter handle urged the LP flag-bearer to call his supporters popularly called the ‘OBIdients’ to order.

He also said, Peter Obi should be held responsible if anything bad happens to him.

In his controversial opinion piece in Nations Newspaper on Monday, Omatseye accused Obi of using religion as a bait through his weekly visit to churches to win their favouy and enable him win the 2023 presidential election.

The columnist also alleged that, he (Obi) has now become has become “a shelter for both miscreants and activists of the crowd.”

“This includes intellectuals who did not show mercy to him while he reigned in Anambra as a pharisaic chief executive. It is like wearing a colour beneath another colour.”

He added, “Obi knows this. He is happy to be their catharsis, to be their excuse for unfurling their bile at the system, for acting like revolutionaries.

“He is playing to it by acting as though he is the saint of Nigerian politics. Perhaps the purists of the Biafran cause are unhappy, and they unleashed a past video clip of Kanu on social media. In it, Kanu lashes out at Obi as governor and states what this essayist wrote about him over building a NEXT supermarket while still the governor of Anambra state.”

Following his article, many OBIdients’ did not hesitate to hurl their reactions to the newspaper as the tittle as well as the content was said to be derogatory to their candidate.

Reacting to the publication, @DavidHundeyin tweeted, “61 year old really picked up his pen and wrote “Obi-tuary” as a headline, like it was some sort of intelligent double entendre. Mediocre fuck.

He added,H of the people who have reputations as “good writers” in Nigeria would have flunked out of year 1 on my creative writing degree. Next time respect your age and status. Imagine Cliff Forshaw or David Kennedy grading their work, Jesus

Another tweep, @abcclouds9 said, “What’s also disturbing is that the newspaper allowed the article to fly! Like you saw something like that and you allowed it to be published! Waoh, just waoh!”
