Ogbomoso, according to eye witness account, has been on the boil form early Wednesday morning over alleged killings by bandits of abducted victims said to have been provoked by army presence in the area.
In a message to Truthlive.net by an eyewitness who asked not to be identified, commuters from Ilorin and from Lagos were asked to avoid Ogbomoso.
“If you are travelling along that axis for now, there was a fresh killing of innocent citizens and people are demonstraing with burnt fire and road blockages within the town,” the eyewitness said.
The online newspaper learnt that a hotel owner, Olugbenga Owolabi, one of his staff, Rachael Opadele, who was a student of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, were both kidnapped last Thursday at Abaa in Ogbomoso but have been reportedly killed after the family allegedly paid a ransom of N5m.
The okada operator who conveyed the person who took the ransom there was also shot dead, allegedly in anger while other persons were wounded and receiving treatment in an undisclosed receiving location.
The online newspaper was informed by a source that the ransom was taken to the abductors on Tuesday night at Ogbomoso-llorin road around Igbon area where the kidnappers counted the money to ensure it was up to the agreed amount.
The kidnapers believed to be men from Fulani extraction became angry when they became aware of the presence of soldiers at LAUTECH area.
The soldier stormed Ogbomoso on Tuesday in response to intelligence over activities of bandits in the area, and then deployed to provide security after the increasing waves of kidnapping in the area.
“Soldiers were deployed to Ogbomoso on Tuesday but the bandits thought we invited the soldiers and so they opened fire on the victims and the men who took the ransom money there,” our informer said to Truthlive.net.
The source added that the corpses were evacuated early Wednesday morning.
