Despite credible intelligence and quick deployment of operatives for operation, the police has come out to say that its recent arrest of leading cultist in Kwara, Monday Ojoagbu, in Ilorin, was not easy.
Givong a blow by blow account of the operation, Ajayi Okasanmi, spokesman of the Nigerian Police, Kwara State Command, said that the wanted criminal had to be neutralized in the omidst of civilian populace while also being armed like the police.
“Ojoagbu has been on our wanted list for a very long time,” he said.
“He and his men were on mission to carry out another gruesome attack on a target yet to be identified.
“We traced and arrested them at Ace Supermarket located at Unity area of Ilorin on 2/8/2022 at about 1800hours.
Ilorin, the Kwara state capital has witnessed some cult killings and counter -killings by opposing cult confraternities in recent times which has unnecessarily heightened tension amongst residents of the state.
“In an attempt to arrest the suspect, while also avoiding likely collateral damage in the process of the arrest, it was difficult to simultaneously arrest the other members of his gang who escaped using customers of the supermarket as shields,” the police said.
