Arsenal proved their preseason form was no fluke by defeating Crystal Palace 2-0 at Selhurst Park in their Premier League opener.

The Gunners took all three points thanks to a first-half goal from Gabriel Martinelli and an own goal late in the game by Palace skipper Marc Guehi.

Martinelli scored Arsenal’s first goal of the new season in the 20th minute.

Wilfried Zaha presented Eberechi Eze with a brilliant defense splitting pass in the 52nd minute, but despite going one on one, Eberechi Eze failed to beat Ramsdale.

After holding off Palace for most of the second half, Arsenal went ahead 2-0 in the 85th minute when Guehi headed Saka’s cross into his own net.

Saka almost added a third goal a few minutes later, but his strike inside the box was blocked for a corner.
