Former Deputy National Chairman of the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olabode George has called on the embattled national chairman of the party, Sen. Iyorchia Ayu to immediately resign from office to allow for equity, fairness and justice in the party.

Mr. George made this call on Thursday morning during an interview on Arise News Television breakfast show, monitored by Truthlive.net.

According to the retired general in the Nigerian military, there must be something for the leaders of the party from the west to campaign with during the campaign period ahead of the 2023 general elections, but as it is currently constituted, the PDP could be regarded as a northern party.

He said: “I’m not here to say if has done well or not as the national chairman, what I’m saying is that there must be something for us to meet our people from the west with, to talk to them to vote for us in the coming elections, but as it is now, the West has nothing.”

“For justice, fairness and equality, Ayu needs to resign, keep to his word, as he had said before his emergence that once a northern candidate emerged he would step down, even if not for that, but for the fact that the West where so much votes are expected should be given a sense of belonging in the party.

Bode George also recalled that since he has been in the PDP since 1998, there’s never been a time when a region in the six geopolitical zones has been isolate like it is now in this dispensation and that has to be corrected now before going into an election.

Ayu’s resignation and the west taking over his office is the best way to begin to talk to the people of the West and convince them to vote for the PDP especially when the ruling All Progressives Congress has picked its candidate also from the southwest, Bode George emphasised.
