Nigeria’s Falconets won their opening match against France in Group D to start their campaign at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica.

Flourish Sabastine scored the lone goal late in the second half in a match played early on Friday morning.

France believed they had scored from a corner in the 81st minute, but VAR determined that the Falconets keeper had been fouled and the goal was disallowed.

Flourish Sabastine gave the Falconets the lead in the 85th minute after advancing on an Idoko through ball and putting the ball beyond the French goalkeeper.

With two minutes left to play Megane Hoeltzel tried a long range strike but Oyono held firmly.

Next up for the Falconets is a second Group D clash with South Korea on Sunday.
