Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has declined the offer to serve as Director-General of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Presidential Campaign Council.
According to reliable sources close to the PDP’s upper echelons, Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar offered the Oyo State Governor the position of DG.
The reason for this is that the Atiku camp wants a seasoned politician like Makinde, who is also from the Southwest, to lead his campaign to frustrate Tinubu’s campaign down south. As a result, Atiku chose Governnor Makinde because he is also from the Southwest, as Tinubu is.
“Atiku does not want Tinubu to have a free reign in South West. He wants Governor Makinde to lead his campaign as DG primarily to be a bulwark against Tinubu’s momentum in the region,” a source noted.
While confiding in truthlive.net reliable sources close to Governor Makinde said that Makinde politely declined Atiku’s offer on the grounds that he has his own reelection campaign to focus on and does not want any distractions from Senator Teslim Folarin of the APC and Mr. Adebayo Adelabu of the Accord Party, who are both formidable opponents.
Recall that Seyi Makinde, the current Governor, defeated Adelabu, the APC candidate for governor in the 2019 election by a considerable margin.
Meanwhile, Truthlive.net correspondent in Ibadan in his efforts to get to the root discovered that Gov. Makinde, being a very close associate and friend of Gov Wike of Rivers State, might have used his own re-election bid as the ideal justification for declining the DG position, but investigations revealed Makinde is still unhappy with the way Atiku bypassed him in order to choose Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his Vice Presidential candidate, and his complacent attitude towards resolving the crisis in the party, among other things.
