Ahmed Halilu, the elder brother to the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, has been appointed as the Managing Director of Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company (NSPMC).

He has been heading NSPMC, which prints naira, in an acting capacity since May 16, 2022, sequel to the resignation of Abbas Masanawa, before President Muhammadu Buhari made it permanent on Thursday.

Masanawa had resigned due to a directive from President Buhari that his appointees seeking elective offices should resign on or before May 16, 2022.

Apart from printing the banknotes and the postal orders of Nigeria, the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Plc also prints some electoral materials for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The company, is also referred to as The MINT, and was founded in 1963 by the Nigerian government in partnership with De La Rue of the UK under the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Its full operation began in 1965, producing currency notes and coins for the CBN and also as a wide range of security documents for the government, commercial banks, and blue-chip companies, among others.

A recent report by Sahara reporters states that, Halilu’s appointment was reportedly backed by the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, who is the chairman of NSPMC, resulting to President Buhari making it permanent.

Halilu has over 23 years of experience in the Banking industry, and holds a Masters degree in International Affairs & Diplomacy, Masters in Business Administration, and Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture B. (Agric). He obtained the certificates from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria.
