The Economic And Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended a Chinese citizen over alleged illegal possession of crude minerals.
The 29-year-old foreigner identified as Gang Deng was captured by the Ilorin Zonal Command of the anti-graft agency, Naija News understands.
A statement made available to newsmen on Saturday by the EFCC Head, Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, explained that Deng was arrested last Friday at a mining site in Kwara State.
Uwujaren said in the statement that a truckload of minerals suspected to be lepidolite was recovered from him the suspect.
“The suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” the statement said.
This is as the commission arraigned one Alkali Bukar Mohammed before Justice Umaru Fadawu of the Borno State High Court, Maiduguri over alleged fraud.
Having gone through the case file, Justice Fadawu on Friday, September 9, 2022, convicted the suspect who was said to have pleaded guilty to a one-count charge, bordering on criminal misappropriation.
Naija News understands that the court handed Mohammed two years imprisonment after admitting to the said misappropriation to the tune of One Million, Seven Hundred Thousand Naira.
A publication on Saturday (today), the Ilorin Zonal Commander of the EFCC charges stakeholders, particularly law enforcement agencies, to support the anti-graft crusade of the Commission.
Reports has it that the admonition was made by the Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE Michael Nzekwe.
Nzekwe was said to have given the charge on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, while on a familiarization visit around military and para-military formations in Ilorin, Kwara State.
He revealed that the collaboration is important to free the country from the challenges of economic and financial crimes.
