AEDC Cuts Power Supply To Niger Govt House, House Of Assembly Over N1.8Billion Debts

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has disconnected key facilities belonging to the Niger Government from power supply due to non-payment of a N1.8Billion Debt owed for both current and outstanding bills.

It was gathered that this makes it The the third time the company disconnected the public infrastructure from public power supply over the inability of the state government to pay light bills.

Some of the facilities disconnected includes, Government House, House of Assembly, General Hospital in Minna, IBB Specialist Hospital, State Water Board, and the State Secretariat.

The government was said to have reached an agreement with the firm in August to pay its current and outstanding debts.

Meanwhile, the company first disconnected government facilities on April 20 and it was disconnected for the second time on August 26, according to a report by Vanguard.

Power supply is yet to be restored to these government facilities had not been restored, as at the time of filing in this report.

Similarly, officials of the AEDC were said to have been seen with ladders going around the offices to disconnect the power supply.

According to AEDC, “the government failed to meet up with its agreement to pay its outstanding debts of over N1.8 billion agreed before the electricity was reconnected in August.”

In the same vein, the Public Relations Officer of AEDC (Niger Region), Mohammed Adamu, confirmed the disconnection.

“The development is true, but we are holding a meeting so I cannot give you more details,” he confirmed.
