President Bola Tinubu honored the Super Eagles of Nigeria on Tuesday by awarding them with the national distinction of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON), flats in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and parcels of land.
The announcement came during a meeting between President Tinubu and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) delegation, led by Sports Development Minister, Senator John Owan Enoh, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The Super Eagles, who emerged as runners-up in the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) hosted by Côte d’Ivoire, were all present at the event, dressed in green attire.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu praised the team, coach, crew, and management for their dedication and perseverance throughout the tournament.
He acknowledged the challenges they overcame and their steadily improving performance leading up to the finals.
President Tinubu urged Nigerians to remain optimistic, emphasizing that the nation achieved a significant victory in the hearts of Africa and the world through the team’s resilience and determination on the field.
He encouraged young Nigerian athletes to continue pursuing their dreams, assuring them of his administration’s commitment to making those dreams a reality.
