A security guard was killed late Friday night in an attack by suspected herdsmen at the Otobi Dam, located in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.

This incident occasions yet another violent episode in a series of deadly attacks that have plagued the Otukpo axis in recent weeks.

Lawmaker Angbo Kennedy, representing Otukpo/Akpa State Constituency, has called for urgent intervention to stop the bloodshed, stating, “This is becoming too much, a guard was killed this evening at the Otobi dam by herdsmen. Please let’s watch out for each other. We must resort to self-help.”

Residents are urging the Benue State Government and security agencies to intensify surveillance and deploy more personnel to rural flashpoints, particularly around strategic infrastructure like the Otobi Dam.

This attack follows similar killings in Okpomaju, Okete, and Asa settlements within Otukpo LGA earlier this year, resulting in several deaths and displacements.

Just yesterday, gunmen hijacked a fully-loaded bus belonging to Benue Links, killing two persons and kidnapping 13 others.

In a separate incident, armed herdsmen militia killed 28 people, including six security operatives, in a fresh attack on three communities in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.
