Ahead of the September 21 governorship poll, the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, has urged the people to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo in the forthcoming governorship election.
Addressing residents of Ogoja at his Uhonmora-Ora country home, where he received decampees from the Labour Party (LP), Agbebaku emphasized the importance of continuity in the state’s development. “A vote for Asue Ighodalo, the Edo PDP candidate, will sustain the ongoing development in the State,” he stated. “Vote for the party that has the people at heart. Shine your eyes as electorates. We must not allow those who do not mean well for Edo to come to power through the back door.”
The Speaker also highlighted the benefits of retaining the speakership within the community. “As the Speaker, we will continue to attract good things to Uhonmora-Ora and Owan West. Ogoja people are part of the people that decide who wins the election in Uhonmora-Ora; for us to retain our speakership, let us vote for Asue Ighodalo,” he urged. “We need to continue to enjoy and use this speakership status to bring good things to Uhonmora-Ora. We will use this opportunity to develop this community. I thank you so much for choosing to be part of this electoral movement.”
The PDP Chairman in the LGA, Engr. David Okoh-Aigbodion, echoed Agbebaku’s sentiments, stating, “A vote for Asue Ighodalo is a vote for good governance, as he will protect the people’s interest.”
Peter Enahoro Marshall, a community leader, described the area as a peaceful place with the best interests of the Ogoja people at heart. “See here as your home. You are already part of us today and we are now one big family,” he said.
At the Civic Centre in Uhonmora-Ora, the Speaker received another group of decampees from the Labour Party, including Mr. Oiseomaye Imonikhe James, the LP Campaign Coordinator for Owan West. Responding to the warm reception, spokespeople for the decampees, Fabian Okom and Ebiale Benjamin, expressed their gratitude. “We have heard you. We are glad you value us so much. We are glad we have this opportunity to have an interface with you as the Speaker,” they said.
“We have seen light in PDP. Seeing you alone, we know it is a good party and because of you, we will support PDP. Be rest assured that we are strongly behind you and Ighodalo, Mr. Speaker.”
