The Authentic Nigeria Football and Allied Sports Supporters Club (ANFASSC) has accused the Australian Embassy of playing politics with Visa approval for various Nigerian supporters clubs as the Nigerian Women National Football team (Super Falcons) prepares to face Canada in their group opener at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
With the Falcons’ opening game just hours away, Prince Abayomi Ogunjimi, National President of ANFASSC, acknowledged that his squad and other supporters’ clubs in the country are unaware of the Australian Embassy’s body language.
He said “This is really unfair, we didn’t see this coming, it has never happened before, my team and other Nigerian supporters’ club scheduled to travel for the World Cup are yet to get visas for the tournament, our joy is to be with the Falcons, we know how important we are to the ladies, it’s quite unfortunate that this is happening”
“It should be on record that no justifiable reason was given for the delay, we have put resources together to prepare, but this development is just unbelievable”
Going by reactions from the supporters’ club, they have unanimously opined that the Australian embassy is intentionally delaying their Visa approval just to neutralize Nigeria’s numerical strength when the Falcons play the host Nation.
Nigeria will take on Australia at the Suncorp stadium on July 27, 2023 in their second group game, the team’s last group game is against Republic of Ireland.
