The School of the Art Institute of Chicago has withdrawn the honourary degree it gave to renowned American rapper, Kanye West in 2015.

The institute disclosed this in a letter signed by its president Elissa Tenny.

According to the School, the move became necessary as a result of the rappers recent outbursts of antisemitism and otherwise offensive comments.

Tenny said, West’s degree was rescinded because the board found that “his anti-Black, antisemitic, and incendiary statements, particularly those directed at Black and Jewish communities, are disgusting and condemnable”.

The rapper was awarded an honorary doctorate back in 2015 for his accomplishments and contributions to art and culture, but Tenny notes, “his actions do not align with SAIC’s mission and values.

Truth Live News had reported that one of Europe’s largest sportswear manufacturer Adidas amongst others also broke ties with the rapper for same reason.
