The State Deputy Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Edo State chapter, Jarret Tenebe, has cried out over the alleged plot by Governor Godwin Obaseki of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to silence the opposition party in the state.

He raised the alarm in a statement issued and signed by him and made available to newsmen in Benin City.

Tenebe alleged that the governor is currently using the various security outfits in the state to arrest and intimidate notable members whom he feels may pose as threat to his party winning the forthcoming general elections in the country.

“It has come to our knowledge the directives of the Edo state government and leadership of the state chapter of the PDP to security agencies particularly the Police, to without reason, arrest some members of the APC across the state”, Tenebe alleges.

The Deputy Chairman of the APC alleged further that the arrest is being coordinated by those who were recently made Local Governments Liaison Officers by the state government and one other person who is very loyal to the deputy governor of the state.

He maintained that the APC as a formidable party in the state will not fold its hand and watch its members being intimidated and arrested, but will do all in its power to protect them.

He charged all the security agencies in the state to live above board and should not allow themselves to be dragged into the murky water of Edo State polity.

“It should be noted that the APC is a law abiding party that poised to win the forthcoming election in a free and free contest.

“However, we wish to state clearly and with sense of commitment that our hands shall not be folded while our members, on the prompting of the state government and opposition party(PDP), are arrested on frivolous and unfounded reasons.

“We, therefore, call on the state commissioner of police and other security agencies to be highly circumspect and exercise the highest level of professionalism and discretion in carrying out their duties as the forthcoming elections approach.

“Edo state must not be thrown into turmoil and chaos”, Tenebe advised.
