Fuad Laguda, the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has clinched victory in the Surulere Federal Constituency 1 bye-election, securing the seat previously held by Femi Gbajabiamila, who now serves as President Tinubu’s Chief of Staff.
In the election held on Saturday, February 3, 2024, Truth Live News reports, Laguda, former APC chairman in the Surulere Local Government, emerged victorious over his rivals, garnering a total of 11,203 votes, as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer, Prof Simeon Adebayo.
His closest competitor from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) managed to secure only 278 votes, while the Labour Party candidate obtained 240 votes.
With this win, Laguda is set to take over Gbajabiamila’s seat in the green chamber, following Gbaja’s resignation in June 2023 after his appointment as Chief of Staff to President Tinubu.
Gbajabiamila had served as Speaker of the House of Representatives from 2019 to 2023 and won his re-election for the sixth consecutive term during the February 25 National Assembly election.
