A disturbing video has surfaced showing Nigerian police officers and operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) engaging in a heated physical altercation in Osogbo, Osun State.
The incident occurred at Elizabeth Estate, Abere, and has sparked concerns about the escalating tensions between the two security agencies.
According to eyewitnesses, the clash began when policemen attempted to arrest a resident without a warrant on Tuesday, but were thwarted by NSCDC operatives. However, the police returned on Thursday, determined to overpower the civil defence corps members.
“Some policemen on Tuesday wanted to arrest someone in the estate without a warrant of arrest but were stopped by the civil defence officers, so they (policemen) came back on Thursday, this time with more men to overpower the civil defence guys,” a resident who witnessed the fight said.
The resident further revealed that the police injured one of the NSCDC operatives and dragged him to the police CID in Osogbo, stating:
“They injured the guy being slapped by a policeman in mufti very well and later dragged him to police CID in Osogbo and sadly till now, their commandant (NSCDC) hasn’t done or said anything since.”
The clash between the police and NSCDC operatives raises concerns about the state of security and law enforcement in Nigeria. The incident highlights the need for improved communication, coordination, and accountability among security agencies to prevent such altercations in the future.
