Taiwo Awoniyi, the Super Eagles forward, continued his impressive form by scoring two goals in as many games for Nottingham Forest.
They secured their first league victory on Friday night by defeating newly promoted Sheffield United 2-1.
Awoniyi’s remarkable streak of scoring in six consecutive Premier League matches now stands as the longest among Nigerian players, with only Mohamed Salah and Emmanuel Adebayor surpassing it with seven-game runs.
Furthermore, he joins Stan Collymore as the second Forest player to achieve this feat.
Notably, Ola Aina and Emmanuel Dennis were absent from Forest’s squad in their clash with Sheffield.
In Friday’s match, Awoniyi wasted no time, heading home Serge Aurier’s cross just three minutes into the game to give Forest the lead.
However, in the 48th minute, Sheffield United equalized with a superb strike from Gustavo Hamer. Yet, in the 89th minute, Chris Wood’s well-placed header sealed the victory for Forest.
This victory catapults Forest to eighth place in the standings.
