The Kano State chapter of main Nigeria`s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has called for the immediate resignation of the national chairman of the party, Dr. Iyiorcha Ayu from office.

At a world press conference addressed by Alh. Shehu Sagagi, the Kano state chairman of the party, Ayu was reminded of the promise he made during his election and advised to keep to his word and resign honorable.

According to the release: “Our national chairman promised to resign if a northern presidential candidate emerges when he was being presented as the sole candidate for the chairmanship position, and we, the Kano state PDP hereby call on him to keep to his promise and resign honorably”.

“Moreover, we must give our people from the south some sense of belonging that we are one, but in a situation where the national chairman, Board of Trustee Chairman, Chairman PDP Governors` Forum and Presidential candidate all from the north, there is certainly nothing fair in such arrangement”.

The chairman, Sagaji insisted that for Atiku to win the presidential election, there must be equity which will ensure that all stakeholders are equally treated.

Truthlive.net has reported that pressure is mounting on the embattled chairman to leave the stage for the party to move forward.

Another perspective shared by other critical stakeholders which were advanced by a commentator, asked 2023: Atiku, Ayu, What Do We Tell Southwest (Yorubas) In PDP? , arguing that the party must look towards the southwest and the current arrangement does not favor them.
