Barcelona has removed Dani Alves from their official list of club legends after he was convicted of rape, according to the Daily Mail.
Truth Live News had reported how Alves received a four and a half-year jail sentence last week for his involvement in a rape incident in a Barcelona nightclub bathroom.
Once a prominent figure in Barca’s all-time best XIs, the heinous crime that led to his imprisonment has prompted calls to erase his name from the club’s collective memory.
Although Barcelona has not issued an official statement regarding Alves’ removal from their roster of legendary players.
This selection includes many of his former teammates such as Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, and Xavi, who currently serves as the head coach of the first team.
Alves joined Barcelona in 2008 and remained at the club until his departure in 2016. During his tenure, he secured six LaLiga titles and three Champions League crowns and was named in the FIFA FIFPro World XI six times.
Only Messi has surpassed the 43 titles won by Alves throughout his illustrious career.
Alves had been in custody at Brians 2 Prison near the Catalan capital since his arrest in January last year. His lawyer, Ines Guardiola, confirmed plans to appeal the verdict.
Alves maintained his innocence during his trial at Barcelona’s Audiencia Provincial court, where he testified on February 7.
