A violent clash broke out between rival Islamist factions in Abadam, Borno State, on Friday, as Boko Haram faction from the Bakoura-led Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati Wal-Jihad (JAS) launched a fierce attack on Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) camps.

According to impeccable sources, the assault targeted ISWAP positions at Toumbun Gini and Toumbun Ali, beginning in the early hours of February 14. The JAS militants, utilizing multiple waterborne vessels, engaged in a prolonged battle that extended into the night.

The sources confirmed the death of several high-ranking ISWAP commanders, notably from the Buduma ethnic group, including one believed to be instrumental in the recent massacre of farmers in Kukawa.

“Boko Haram killed more than 31 ISWAP fighters but there could be more,” the sources revealed. After overrunning the ISWAP positions, JAS fighters captured weapons and equipment before withdrawing.

Further reports indicate that JAS militants from Bokorram Island are now preparing for additional attacks on ISWAP forces at Gemu and Mallam Karamti, signaling an escalation in their campaign against ISWAP.

Zagazola Makama, a West African Security Watchdog and Analyst, notes that more confrontations are expected, particularly in Kukawa LGA, as JAS intensifies its operations against its rival faction.

Stay tuned for more detailed coverage on these developments.
