Terrorists from Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have launched a deadly assault on a Nigerian military Forward Operating Base (FOB) in the Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, resulting in the deaths of several soldiers, with many others still unaccounted for on Saturday, January 4, 2025, according to security sources.
During the two-hour attack, the terrorists set fire to multiple buildings and military vehicles, leaving widespread destruction in their wake. “The 25 Taskforce Brigade was attacked over the weekend, with many casualties. So far, we have recovered over seven bodies,” a security source revealed to SaharaReporters on Monday.
The terrorists struck FOB Sabon Gari around 4 a.m., using a range of weapons during the assault.
Since the death of Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, ISWAP has been rapidly expanding its influence, particularly around the Lake Chad region strengthening its ranks with the defection of hundreds of Boko Haram fighters, increasing its ability to carry out attacks across the region.
The Nigerian Army has vowed to continue its efforts to eliminate terrorism from the country, reiterating its commitment to restoring peace and security as the terror group has been responsible for a significant loss of life and the displacement of millions of people, particularly in Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe states.
