Breaking: CAF Cancels Nigeria-Libya AFCON Qualifier, Cites Investigation

Felicia Udeji Reporting

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has delisted the highly anticipated second-leg fixture between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Libya’s Mediterranean Knights in the ongoing 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifier.

This shocking decision comes after the Super Eagles secured a thrilling 1-0 victory in the first leg at Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Friday.

The controversy surrounding the return leg began when Nigerian players and officials reported a harrowing 14-hour ordeal at the Libya airport, prompting them to return home. The Libya Football Federation has alleged sabotage and is threatening legal action against Nigeria. In response, CAF has launched an investigation into the incident.

CAF’s decision to delist the game has significant implications for the tournament. The African football body has updated its schedule for Tuesday’s games, and notably, the Libya vs. Nigeria match is no longer included.

This development has left fans and teams wondering about the future of the qualifier.
