The Edo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a call for the immediate arrest of Jarrett Tenebe, the Acting State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), following a viral video in which Tenebe allegedly incited violence against Governor Godwin Obaseki.
In the video, which has been widely circulated on social media, Tenebe is seen threatening to mobilize hoodlums to stone Governor Obaseki.
In a press statement issued on Monday by Edo State, PDP Chairman Rt. Hon. Tony Aziegbemi, and made available to Truth Live News, the PDP has condemned this as a direct call for anarchy and a treasonable offense, causing significant anxiety and apprehension among the residents of Edo State.
“This video, showing Mr. Tenebe’s outrageous threat in the presence of security agencies, is unacceptable and cannot be ignored,” stated Rt. Hon. Tony Aziegbemi, Chairman of the Edo State PDP.
“We urge the Edo State Commissioner of Police and the Director of the Department of State Security (DSS) to arrest Jarrett Tenebe immediately and conduct a thorough investigation into his statements.”
The PDP has expressed concerns that failure to take swift action against Tenebe could lead to widespread disorder. They have called on their supporters to maintain peace and resist any attempts to incite violence and disunity in the state.
“We appeal to all our supporters and party members to stay calm and uphold the peace in Edo State. Let us not allow agents of discord to throw our state into chaos,” Aziegbemi urged.
The PDP’s firm stance highlights the heightened political tensions in Edo State, as parties prepare for upcoming elections. The party has reiterated its commitment to maintaining order and ensuring the safety of its citizens amidst the escalating rhetoric.
