The All Progressives Congress (APC) has unexpectedly closed its case at the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal after a disastrous performance by four of its witnesses, who, under intense cross-examination, admitted to cases of over-voting.
Truth Live News confirmed that the tribunal, which resumed proceedings today, had expected the APC legal team to present 24 more witnesses in its challenge against the outcome of the September 21, 2024, gubernatorial election. However, in a dramatic turn of events, the party’s lawyers informed the panel that they would no longer be calling any further witnesses.
This decision follows yesterday’s testimony by four APC witnesses, which proved damaging to the party’s claims. Under rigorous questioning, they conceded that incidents of over-voting had occurred, a revelation that significantly weakened APC’s petition against the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo.
The tribunal subsequently adjourned its sitting to March 3, 2025, when the PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are expected to open their defense.
