BREAKING: Ex-CBN Gov Emefiele Granted N50m Bail

A high court in Ikeja, Lagos, has approved bail for former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor Godwin Emefiele, setting the bail amount at N50 million.

Judge Rahmon Oshodi granted Emefiele bail on Friday, requiring two sureties to stand in like sum.

Emefiele faces a 26-count charge in Lagos related to alleged abuse of office, to which he pleaded not guilty earlier.

The Lagos State Special Offences Court had remanded Emefiele in EFCC custody after his arraignment on Monday, along with co-defendant Herry Omoile, who also pleaded not guilty.

Emefiele had been in custody until Friday’s bail ruling, while Omoile was remanded in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Services.

Emefiele’s lawyer, Abdulakeem Ladi-Lawal, had requested bail on self-recognition or the most lenient terms possible, proposing similar conditions to those granted by another court in Abuja.
