Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has officially announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party.

Adeleke made the announcement at a stakeholders’ meeting at the Osun State Government House.

The move positions him to seek a second term in the 2026 off-cycle governorship election under the Accord banner, which has actively courted him as a stable platform free from factions and godfather interference.

He earlier resigned from the PDP, citing “crisis within the national leadership,” but says he remains grateful for the party’s past support.

Adeleke’s resignation letter from PDP, dated November 4, 2025, cited unending national leadership turmoil that hindered effective governance. Failed negotiations to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) despite advanced talks offering House seats and key positions collapsed due to opposition from former Governor Gboyega Oyetola’s camp. Accord Party, holding primaries within 24 hours, emerged as the viable alternative, with state chairman Victor Akande welcoming him wholeheartedly.
