Akure, Ondo State

In a surprising turn of events, former Ondo State deputy governor, Honorable Agboola Àjàyí, has secured victory in the state’s PDP primary elections, marking a significant development in the political landscape of the region.

Truth Live News can confirm that Àjàyí, who defected from the APC to the PDP in 2020 and later emerged as the candidate of the ZLP, before returning to the PDP to contest for Senate in 2023, has now clinched the party ticket with 246 votes. His closest rival, Honorable Kolade Akinjo, trailed behind with 157 votes.

The victory positions Àjàyí as the opposition PDP’s flag bearer for the upcoming Ondo State governorship election scheduled for November this year. His triumph sets the stage for a heated electoral contest against the incumbent Governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the APC, who previously served as deputy to the late Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

The primary elections saw other candidates vying for the PDP ticket, with Sola Ebiseni securing 99 votes, Adeolu Akinwunmi with 64 votes, Bamidele Akingboye with 24 votes, Bosun Arebuwa with 2 votes, and John Ola Mafo with 9 votes.

With Àjàyí’s victory, the stage is now set for a showdown between two former deputy governors who worked alongside Akeredolu, underscoring the intensity of the political rivalry in the state.
